How to Update Your Mobile Number on Aadhaar
Add or change the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. The mobile update is the one Aadhaar change that cannot be done online — here's exactly what to do at the enrolment centre.

The mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is the single most important detail to keep current — it's the OTP destination for nearly every Aadhaar-based KYC check (PAN linking, EPFO login, e-Sign, DigiLocker, banking).
Unlike most other Aadhaar updates, the mobile change cannot be done online. UIDAI requires biometric verification to prevent identity theft via SIM swap. You have to visit a UIDAI-authorised enrolment centre, an authorised bank/post office Aadhaar desk, or a Common Service Centre with biometric equipment.
Once linked, the new number takes a few working days to become active across the UIDAI ecosystem.
Eligibility

- 3
Fill the Aadhaar update form
Tick 'Mobile Number' as the field to update and write the new 10-digit number clearly.

The operator captures your fingerprint or iris to authenticate you against your Aadhaar record.

Pay the fixed fee at the counter.
- 6
Save the URN (Update Request Number)
The slip you receive carries a 14-digit URN — track the update status with this number.
- 7
Check status after a few days
The new number is usually linked within a few working days. Track status on the myAadhaar portal.

Common mistakes
- Assuming the mobile update is online — it is not. Only address, name, DOB, gender, and email updates can be done online; mobile must be done in person.
- Going to a non-authorised mobile shop or 'CSC' that claims to update Aadhaar — they cannot legally do mobile updates.
- Forgetting to verify the mobile number written on the form before submitting — once submitted, you'd need to pay again to fix it.
- Trying to use a mobile linked to a family member's Aadhaar — UIDAI allows one mobile across multiple Aadhaars only in specific head-of-family scenarios.
