Your Aadhaar address is one of the most checked KYC fields in India — banks, telcos, employers, and government portals all read it. Updating it online through the Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) on myAadhaar takes minutes when your proofs are clean.
The biggest cause of rejection is a blurry or mismatched scan. Use a colour scan of the original document, not a photocopy of a photocopy, and make sure your name appears on the proof exactly as it does on Aadhaar.
If your mobile isn't linked to Aadhaar, the online route won't work — you'll need to visit a UIDAI enrolment centre or update centre at a bank or post office instead.
Eligibility
- You hold an Aadhaar.
- You have an Aadhaar-linked mobile number for OTP (required for the online route).
- You have at least one valid address proof in your name.

Common mistakes
- Uploading a blurry or cropped scan — UIDAI rejects unreadable address proofs and you'll have to resubmit (and pay again).
- Address proof not showing the applicant's name exactly as on Aadhaar.
- Using an older document where the address differs from the new one entered in the form.
- Not having an Aadhaar-linked mobile — the online flow cannot be completed without OTP. Use offline enrolment instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I update Aadhaar address without any document?▾
Only in special head-of-family scenarios where another Aadhaar holder validates your address. The standard route requires a valid address proof.
How long does the online update take?▾
Typically a few working days. UIDAI does not guarantee a fixed turnaround. Track with the URN.
My update got rejected. What now?▾
Check the rejection reason on the status page. Usually it's a document mismatch or quality issue. Fix it and submit a fresh request.
Can I update Aadhaar at a bank or post office?▾
Yes. UIDAI authorises specific Banking Correspondent Service Points (BCSPs) and India Post centres as Aadhaar update locations. Find the nearest using the 'Locate an Enrolment Centre' tool on the UIDAI site.
